President's Message

It is my honour to be elected as the President for The Hong Kong Occupational Safety and Health Association (HKOSHA) for the term 2020-2021. Together with the Executive Council members, we will continue our journey in promoting Health and Safety in Hong Kong, and collaborate with other organizations in Hong Kong and APAC region. Our 2018-2019 Executive Council led by Past President Dr. Daron Leung has set a path forward for us, and we are so glad that Dr. Leung is staying with us for this journey. We would like to use this opportunity to express our thankfulness to the following key persons who have contributed to the Association and the industry for a long time and decided to step down from their EC positions in this term.

  • Mr. Victor Kwong, our past President and also the first President of the Hong Kong Federation of Occupational Safety and Health Associations. Victor had demonstrated to us how we could collaborate with other stakeholders to create synergy, not only among fellow safety and health practitioners, but also authorities and unions.
  • Mr. Boris Ho, our Vice President for the term 2018-2019 as well as the Chairman of the Editorial Board of our Safety Bulletin for over a decade. Apart from the CPD courses, Safety Bulletin is our key publication that we provide to our members. The Editorial Board is probably one of the most stressful committees within our EC committee structure.

We would also like to express our sincere appreciation for other ECs who left in this term including Mr. Raiko Kwok, Mr. John Lai, Mr. Tony Lam and Mr. Felix Chan.

Being the longest history of non-profit making Occupational Safety and Health association in Hong Kong, HKOSHA is devoted to promote exchange of knowledge and experience in occupational safety and health (OSH) and positive collaboration among OSH practitioners. Since 1977, our EC members actively support the industry through various engagement with fellow safety practitioners and stakeholders, both locally in Hong Kong and across the APAC region through Asia Pacific Occupational Safety & Health Organization (APOSHO).

In this term of 2020-2021, we will:

  • Apply government subsidy to revamp our website to allow better user experience;
  • Conduct online CPDs which we had the first trial in May 2020 including our online AGM and a couple of CPDs;
  • Continue to provide advices or reference to our members for occupational safety and health related issues;
  • Continue to share latest development and innovations related to occupational health and safety via our CPDs, Facebook Page and our Safety Bulletin, and
  • Continue to consolidate members’ opinion for public consultations as requested by local authorities

During this difficult period of COVID-19, a lot of our fellow OSH practitioners have played a key role in their workplaces to provide professional advices and management to prevent an outbreak in their work locations. May I wish you all safe and healthy over this period and see you all in our functions when we have our final victory against the COVID-19!

Mr. SUM Tak Yin, Sam
President
