In HK, we are now at the peak for a number of railway constructions in which tunnelling is one of the main theme of the site activities. In this seminar, the speaker will share his tunnelling experience, in particular, about the current legal implications; the confined spaces issue in a tunnel under construction situation; the difference in OSH requirements between the BS 6164 – COP for Safety in Tunnelling in Construction Industry and the F&IU Regulations; the methods of tunnelling construction in hard rock; the use of TBM; the safe operation in soft ground. The seminar will also cover the major hazards in rock fall and collapse; the ingress of water; lighting and ventilation; mucking out and plant movement; fire fighting and rescue. The seminar will end up with a few accident case studies.
